THE BANK JOB

ImageThough the movie was so much fun to watch, the reality that of Banking in general, especially in Nigeria is much like the story of the bowl of garri that seemed to keep swelling after every scoop. So many people place so much worth on the idea of working in a bank, but someone says that bowl of garri doesn’t even exist. Working for a bank – Is it worth it?
After going through the rigours of tests and interviews to get a bank job, with the job comes another set of challenges. If you are an operations staff you will always have more than you can do in a single day(due to downsizing there’s staff shortage) so you find yourself scheduling weekends to catch up. Not to mention the fact that you will most probably be given a deposit target even while spending your whole week in the bank and your weekends attending monthly and quarter reviews meetings. Despite this intense pressure, the oloriburuku banks still expect you to do your job with 100% accuracy and will not hesitate to point out flimsy excuses as basis to relieve you of your job. As a marketing staff, you are always leaving your life on the edge. If you achieve your deposit target you are in trouble because the next quarter’s deposit target will be outside your reach, and if you don’t achieve the target your job is on the line, so tell me what does one do? Indeed, if you do perform, you will be applauded, but when you can’t deliver their unrealistic expectations, you will be shown the way out. And then when your appointment is terminated and you can’t get hold of another, quickly your lifestyle begins to fall short of what it used to be until most bankers become like deportees after being without a job for too long. I am of the opinion that NIGERIAN banks use and dump people. My conclusion is that Nigerian Labour organisations or whichever body is in charge of employees’ welfare should put their spot light on banks and let them put a stop to this present modern day slavery called banking….. So like i said, no bowl of garri. No sugar sef. Jokes apart tho, i’ve never been a fan of banks, right from time (they use AC)😝. This writer believes something should be done and I say this writer has spoken well. What do you say? What do you have to say? What do you want to say? Would you like to say it here? Let me know. I know this will not get that handsome GTB guy , that begs us to open an account and sweats like my sponge ,off the streets, but at least its a start. Im not a banking expert, but i say this writer speaks the truth.

  1. You are very right about your view. Despite the fact that most bankers don’t happily spend what they earn due to work. Pressure and insatiable commitments, a lot of people still believe that bankers are too stingy. We should not deceive ourselves anymore, a lot of careers better and more rewarding than banking exists.
